Credit Unions treat you like you own the bank, because as a member you do. Credit Unions are not-for-profit financial cooperative institutions. We offer many of the same products and services as other financial institutions including savings and checking accounts, loans, ATMs and online banking, but there are also big differences that can help save you money. Credit Unions are owned and controlled by their members and volunteer boards. That means the average Credit Union can offer better rates and lower fees. Credit Unions offer the same products and services that the big banks do, but do it differently. From the beginning, our structure was built on social purpose and putting people before profits. So much that our profit is always returned to the cooperative through lower fees, loan interest rates and higher savings dividend rates. That's how we strive to save you money.
The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) estimates that Texas credit unions provided $1,268,024,099 in direct benefits to the state's 9,135,135 members during the twelve months ending September 2019.
That's equivalent to $139 per member or $291 per household. Learn more about the significant benefits and savings Texas Credit Unions provide compared to Texas Banks. Download the CUNA Report PDF.
Call us crazy, but we think people should own their financial institution just as much as their finances. Credit Unions have a member volunteer board who set the strategic direction of the Credit Union's goals based on what the membership-at-large wants to see. By becoming a member of a credit union, you own a share of the success of your cooperative. Also, Credit Unions are local, meaning we're community-focused first and the money deposited works toward growing our community, not other communities where returns are higher.
Since we're not your typical bank (member owned and local) our success is based on your success. We're your financial advocate and realize that your financial success depends primarily on who you pick as your financial partner. We live, breathe, and teach financial literacy because we want you to prosper, not pay unnecessary fees as a penalty.
